The Minnesota Wild signed Elk River native Nate Prosser March 18 to an entry level contract for the remaining 2009-10 season.

Prosser, a senior defenseman at Colorado College, posted 28 points in 39 games for the Tigers this season, ranking second in the WCHA in scoring for defensemen. He has 64 points in 137 games during his career in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

He was a two-time all-Northwest Suburban Conference player for the Elks before joining Souix Falls of the USHL toward the end of the 2003-04 season. He helped the Stampede win the Anderson Cup in 2005-06 as a captain, collecting 35 points in 72 games, earning second team all-USHL honors.

According to Star Tribune's Michael Russo, Prosser signed a one-year mandatory contract prorated to $97,000 because of his age, which expire after July 1. Russo reported on his Russo's Rants blog this morning that he'll be with the team in Nashville for the game tonight, but most likely will not play, baring injury. He cannot be sent to Houston (Wild's AHL affiliate) because of a loophole.
